Root Canals

When the nerve inside a tooth has been contaminated by the presence of an extensive amount of bacteria in a large cavity, the nerve must be removed from the tooth and the chamber and canals of the roots cleaned out. Root canal treatment involves the removal of the bacteria and carious tooth structure, the cleaning and shaping of the nerve canals within the roots, and the filling of the roots with a sealing material called gutta percha. Once the tooth has received root canal therapy, it is ready to have a crown placed.
