Dental Implants

When a tooth is lost, whether it is due to extensive cavities, trauma, or periodontal disease, it can be replaced with a dental implant.

A dental implant is a titanium fixture that is placed in the jaw, thereby replacing the root structure of the tooth that was removed. In most cases, a dental implant is an excellent way of replacing the tooth without experiencing the disadvantages of a fixed bridge or removable partial dentures. It is considered the ideal treatment for a missing tooth because it does not affect your adjacent teeth. There is no stress placed on the teeth next to the implant. There is no need to crown the adjacent teeth as for a bridge or clasp them as for a partial, because the implant replaces the entire tooth from root to crown, essentially giving you back the tooth you had lost.

When a tooth is removed, the bone in that area is no longer stimulated and begins to resorb. A dental implant keeps this bone intact, and can prevent bone loss and gum tissue recession. Since the implant replaces the root structure, it continues to stimulate the surrounding bone, thereby helping to preserve its integrity and mass. Just as with one missing tooth, several missing teeth can also be aided by dental implants. Implant supported bridges, are like conventional bridges, but use implants as anchors as opposed to natural tooth structure.

Implant Over-dentures are made to snap on to dental implants, thereby preventing any movement or slipping of the denture while eating or talking. Implant Over-dentures fit more securely and comfortably and many denture patients are amazed at the level of comfort they have achieved just by switching from conventional dentures to implant over-dentures.  Please visit our office conveniently located in here in Redlands for a consultation on dental implants.
